Is Kobo the only good non-Amazon e-reader?
Is Kobo the only good non-Amazon e-reader?
Not only do I want to build a Micro.blog browser extension; I want it to include whatever that function is in which you can use third-party features when right-clicking a page.
I especially want to highlight text and have the “Quote on Micro.blog” option to be immediately available near the cursor.
Per the awesome new feature for MB, I am immediately using this for TIL. Will be included in the next Orchid update along with another recent addition to the platform.
I love it when an idea I am going to implement becomes much easier thanks to improvements made by Manton and co.
The brand new One Page feature for Micro.blog is pretty fucking sweet.
Added an OPML export option for who youβre following, under Posts β ββ¦β β Export. Finally! This is slightly incomplete because Micro.blog attempts to exclude feeds that look semi-private. Weβll continue to improve this. There is also a fediverse CSV export under Account β View Fediverse Details.

I’ll soon be checking the different platforms for their export capabilities, as part of research for TIL. It’ll be interesting to see which platform, if any, has a comprehensive offering of this feature.
I’ve been on the web for over twenty years and my brain still struggles to think of bread as “a biscuit”.
I continue to struggle with the limit-less nature of the MB timeline. Moving through paragraphs of text intermingled with columns of photographs isn’t my preferred scrolling experience.
However; “Read more” links and side-scrolling widgets often feel… fragile? So idk. A tough nut to crack.
A new feature on Micro.blog inspired a discussion over what I think of as the ongoing friction caused by the dual nature of the platform as a paid blogging host, with free(ish) social network attached.
My reply got longer than I like to see in my own timeline so here we go…
The reason I would prefer to use a different label is that it helps me maintain a sense of place, to be aware of the context. To me:
(Edit: actually, this makes sense now that I’ve written it out. Conversation works because that’s where the link goes. My question now is: why is there a link to the timeline mixed in with my blog posts?
Maybe this would be easier to understand if Conversation.js was better equipped as a commenting system.)
This tripped me up because it appears to be an ongoing issue; I regularly see lots of people struggle with these ideas and there is no apparent proof of intent from the design side of things β what’s the idea, why was it done that way, will it change over time, how much does feedback matter in these decisions, etc βand I wonder if these choices add to the uncertainty and difficulty? I’m probably over-thinking it.
Never judge software by the number, or regularity of updates.
I went to one MB meet-up about analogue tools and now I’m wondering if I could fit a writing desk into this house.
Need to make a note of Charlie Monroe’s upcoming video player so that I have some chance of remembering. I’m going to buy this thing without trying it; that’s how good I find Downie and Permute to be.
busy week βοΈ
The MB Analogue Meet-up, aka The Patrick Rhone Appreciation Hour was fun! I came away with some ink on my hands…
All is well with the world. π₯²

One of my decisions about becoming a software developer was whether to put my effort into native Apple development or not. With the company’s latest childish outburst, I feel less inclined to do so.
Twenty-seven years later and “the Crazy Ones”, as a notion in this company is dead.
You know that Clicks keyboard case would work well with the phablet. At that point it is very much a mini-computer; a “hand terminal” as Vincent used to say.
The US is a continent that votes in this thing, and the election is ridiculous with regard to mobilised effort; people, money, employed, volunteers, events, etc… and only one strategy is attempted? Why not do all of this?
idk I’m probably not in the best position to judge for the US specifically but I think there are similarities in this country (England). Do you know what happened when progressives last tried to just energise the base? Jeremy Corbin rambled on about obscure policy that literally nobody cared about.
Why are so-called progressives so willing to fall over their own feet with this stuff? Maddening. We’re like “we care!” and then do… uh, something about it, I guess? Clarity and focus is required, and whilst I agree you shouldn’t abandon your base or ignore the supposed non-deciding minority I also find it difficult to believe that we can’t do more than one thing.
I would hope that the people involved have this covered, and the strategy involves some degree of establishing priorities β you apply x amount of resources to each type; base, non-decided, opposition; and then shift your efforts as the situation develops.
I see an awful lot of “ew the other side” specifically on the web and it’s tiring given how the majority of people all want the same thing: make my life better.
I recall Obama talking about his frustration with this, especially on the internet, in that it seemed to him that too few people on the progressive side of things understood that they were shooting themselves in the foot by getting overly involved in nonsensical tribalism. There are real problems to solve and it never happened without clarity of purpose.
TIL that Punkt. have made a smart phone, which runs on an operating system called Apostrophy. According to CrackBerry the system is based on GrapheneOS, which is built using the part of Android that is independent from Google’s control of data.
It’s interesting. I still have my eye on the MP02.
The latest @effinbirds looked directly into my soul.
The conclusion to CGP Grey’s Rock-Paper-Scissors game is not only my favourite video of his, I think it is my favourite YouTube video.
