A thing I wish I could teach my younger self:
Proper hydration, posture, and movement will make your life immeasurably better.
My wife and I went to the Apple store yesterday to properly look at some of the shinies together for the first time. It was pretty nice, the staff were super helpful even though it was busy, and of course now we want the shinies.
I really wish it was easier to manage my following list on Micro.blog. It’s one of very few conventional social features I actually want.
Pretty close to two years on Micro.blog and my favourite number 1 feature continues to be:
No tracking.
twitter is not a good platform for discourse

Lack of clarity and context is best for shallow, lightweight statements. Got something big to say as part of a possibly public discussion? Post it to your blog.
With regard to Micro.blog updates, it’s fair to say that @manton has been on a roll this summer especially for hosted accounts. The latest addition, free test sites for all hosted accounts is a big landmark.
This is covered on @til, via update posts and the History page.
One of the best things about football that I miss are people like Eric Cantona. 🤣🤣🤣
Big goals for the immediate future;
- finish removing all politics from my online life (progress has been quick and wow do I feel better);
- make everything I contribute to the web have substantive value to others, myself, or both.
My blog is now mirrored to Twitter, if you’re into that kind of thing. This feels like the best comprimise, and is made easier due to the way Micro.blog handles cross-posting.
👋🏻 Hi Twitter folx!
Apple Maps in DuckDuckGo, Bing Maps, and OpenStreetMap are all inferior to Google Maps. Does anybody know of a good alternative for non-iPhone users?
Search on Pocket Casts needs a lot of work. Makes the app frustrating to use and just adds another brick to my “reasons to move back to Apple” wall.
An incoming Harvard freshman, a 17 year old Palestinian boy, had his visa cancelled & was deported because US officials searched his phone/laptop & said his friends had social media posts that were critical of the US.
The US will no longer attract the best.
The weird thing about Brexit for me, personally, is that it coincides with big changes for my wife and I – in a good way, nothing to worry about – and so there’s a possibility I’ll go without any posts or comments for a while; hopefully it’s just because of the good changes.
More than two years of an “indiscriminate iPhone attack”, centring on both websites and Safari. I know native apps aren’t perfectly safe but stuff like this is why it can be difficult to be pro-web. Who has time to worry about this stuff when you can just use apps?
The colours in the new Apple invite are just lovely.

As part of my move away from Google, I’m now trying (and enjoying) the following:
- Nova Launcher: removes the clutter of the Pixel Launcher
- Firefox Focus: lightweight browsing FTW
- DuckDuckGo: results I want
- Protonmail: accessible privacy
