short
Exciting times for those of us using Android:
- Belle B. Cooper (@belle) has released an APK of a posting client for Micro.blog.
- The Dialog app will soon have a fairly big update.
Got my Podstand profile set up. It’s a work in progress.
I like this idea a lot. Thanks, @stephencoyle!
âšī¸ About page: updated
I have de-emphasised my profiles on Twitter and Mastodon because I don’t pour any real effort into posting on either of them. More often than not it’ll be throwaway comments or links to the rest of my stuff.
The apps I miss most from iOS:
- Due
- Overcast
- Drafts
- Unread
- Micro.blog
- Ipsum
- Remind Me
- Tweetbot
- Fantastical
- Messages
- Safari
- Apple Music (Android version is OK but nowhere near close to the iOS version)
Whilst its true that Micro.blog has the superior app offerings on iOS, there is quite a gap with Mastodon when it comes to Windows and Android. There are so many options. Feels weird!
Instead of Micro.blog vs Mastodon, how about:
Micro.blog AND Mastodon vs the bullshit closed corporate web
These platforms should be Open Web allies. đ
Working through some confusion about Mastodon – literal “how does this work” type of confusion – has actually helped me to think about @til and how it can help non-MB peeps.
Also, whilst I’m on it is there a MB instance on Mastodon? Might be useful.
PodStand is a website to share your podcast subscriptions. Without Twitter I would not have seen this… and so I remain anxious about all of the current changes… are we all just going to be further apart now?
Maybe I’m just not into the original idea behind status-post SMS-esque based networks but when I see the Mastodon people posting messages about not harrassing people over Follower metrics I just feel tired.
“Metrics aren’t important here.”
Then why can I see them?
Not everybody has to jump to Twitter/Facebook alternatives right now, since those behemoths have made it clear any true alternative will take time to develop to a point where you can just swap them out. No need for the mental acrobatics to justify your continued use of them.
Rewatching: Steve Jobs at WWDC 1997
From this point (14 minutes) on for the next 5 or so minutes he describes his network-based set up and it is everything people like to hype about Google, and with it bash Apple.
Windows is a service
Do you think whoever wrote this for the updater immediately felt sad about it? (assuming it was a person of course)
Looks like people leaving Twitter just want their Twitter replacement right now without any waiting. That’s fine, go to Mastodon or stay on Twitter, and when you are inevitably fully disappointed by them Micro.blog will still be here; a patiently built, well considered option.
User-based moderating tools are beginning to arrive, a very good step for Micro.blog to take. đ
