Wavelength for Micro.blog

I can’t use the app (hi 👋 third-party devs) but native support for microcasts is just the right opportunity for people like me, having stopped short of producing audio.

Bravo, Manton. 👏

app.net is on the way …

Inspired by Marcelo’s latest edition of his homescreen experiment, here’s my latest homescreen.

So we’re all clear:

If Jack Dorsey could be Mark Zuckerberg he would take that deal in a fucking hearbeat.

Weighing up the £200 lump-sum cost of yearly WP-hosted (to get access to plugins) against the cost (monetary, time, energy) of self-hosted WP. 🤔

(Seriously, as soon as MB has just a few more features I’ll be ready to switch my site right over, even if the monthly cost goes up.)

HP are about to release the Chromebook x2, a Chrome OS tablet. Considering how happy I am with my sub-£200 HP Chromebook, I’ll definitely take a look at this when it ships.

Tonight is the night I begin my binge-catch up on Micro.blog-focused podcasts:

  • Micro Monday
  • Timetable
  • Core Intuition

I’ve been using the official Twitter client as my only access on mobile and, honestly, it’s not fine or just as good as third party options. For the people who say this it’s clear they have abandoned the idea that good standards – let alone high standards – are important.

Coolest use of colors to actually help people.

Jen Scharl stumbled upon brilliant design in public transport.

Systemic Racism at Work

Imagine shitting on a child for having the gall to be excellent. Assholes.

Pro Tip: yelling at people to leave established social media services for something that is not as developed or user friendly will not make the alternative look good.

One of my biggest hopes for MB is that non-Apple alternative apps are developed at an accelerated rate, including those for Sunlit. I am not convinced that the closed Apple audience is the best base from which to launch a network; the greater variety of people the better.

Podcasters have sold Squarespace HARD for years and it turns out they have a limit on their podcast archive via RSS.

It’s amazing to see the things these podcasters leave out of the adverts and (assumed) research.

Twitch gamer teams up with his son

This is like the beginning of Up. 😭

Top of my Web Wishlist of Small Things:

  • Every company that makes something in the arts stops insisting on having their own network for you to create an account on.

(Seriously, Square Enix, WTF.)

A week without home internet is like being slowly choked by an invisible version of Superman; you keep forgetting that it’s happening and when you do remember you can think about little else other than how there’s basically nothing you can do to stop it.

I’m listening to the latest ATP, speficially the discussion about Apple’s education event. Honestly, “They’re a luxury brand and always have been." is becoming an increasingly weak counter to any number of critiques. Apple are failing in multiple ways.

… in city centers, buses and trains are often the best way to get around, which presents a challenge for people who use wheelchairs or with other mobility needs.

Rio Akasaka, introducing “wheelchair accessible” routes for Google Maps.

👏

Shearing The Sheep

Sarah Andersen’s latest comic is brilliant.
