short
This week on Micro Monday I want to talk about @Verso, who opens up rabbit holes, asks questions that stay with me long after reading them on the tl, and really really gives no shits about being honest. +1 would recommend ✨
Does anybody have a good resource about using alt and title tags? I only want to implement them if they improve accessibility, rather than actually harming accessibility.
Maxime Chevalier-Boisvert talks about her new job, having left Apple last year:
Another great perk of this new job of mine, is that being an academic lab, they fully embrace the open sharing of ideas and information.
These losses dwarf battery PR problems.
Claire Field is going to talk about pain at a conference for the TM Society and I couldn’t be more proud, both as her fiancé and carer. Her hard work, unwavering compassion, and indomnitable spirit continue to astound me. 🙌
An uplifting end to the week. 🙏
Can’t stop thinking about the dynamic between podcasters who say they don’t trust Facebook with their data but then go ahead and advertise Squarespace who have the power to build people up via their websites and then just take it away at any time.
Phew! All caught up on my mentions and a chunk of my tl from today. Feels much more satisfying as compared to Twitter. ✨
I wonder if the juxtaposition of IndieWeb and Apple enthusiasts is as interesting as I think it is. I guess hardware and foundational software isn’t made to a decent and accessible standard by indie people? Probably not even possible at this point.
I encourage you to click the button at the bottom of this post and help Aleksandar Todorović break the law.
Three new things I have recently started using are making me happy:
As a Windows user I am actually relieved to have found all of these, especially with my current goals in mind.
M A N I A, the new Fall Out Boy album is pretty fucking good.
I love what Stephen Fry has to say about podcasts, especially from the POV that they just fit so well into your life. I can’t wait to get a phone back in my life so that I can return to using Overcast.
Two recommendations in one: the Instantaneous Gram episode of the Do By Friday podcast includes a mostly spoilery discussion about the Amazon Original show, Patriot. I find the former to be therapeutic and the latter is achingly good.
Great post from @cdevroe in which he interviews @manton about Micro.blog. A good way to introduce people to the platform.
I’ve just finished listening to “After Laughter”, Paramore’s latest album for the second time. “Tell Me How” is brilliant.
Shahid Kamal makes a clear case for the lack of Pro in the MacBook Pro
Obviously this is not the first time this issue has been written about, nor will it likely be the last but I enjoy the concise manner in which Shahid makes his points. It’s fair to say that the lack of real alternative options is hurting the Pro side of Apple’s computers right now.
Michael Singletary talks about Fears of the IndieWeb
I have the same anxiety about bridging my ownership to the rest of the world. For example, I’m already thinking about the people whose Twitter posts I enjoy that are not on Micro.blog; for now, c’est la vie but we’ll see how it goes.
