@maique Oh no need to apologise. Even if you wanted to check first, there is no good way to know if a problem you're having on Micro.blog is a known issue or not.
@braindump That lesson is exactly what we should have, alongside a robust set of lessons for lots of "How To Live Life" ideas. Then, on top of that support for people who wish to supplement that in their communities.
The local shopkeeper was telling me that the children who pop in for sweets do not know how to add up their money and instead rely on their phones. It's embarrassing that even one child would be in this position in this country, let alone the degree to which parents — and all of us who claim to care about community — are directly neglecting their duty of care in this way.
@kaa They all reappeared around here about two weeks ago, though we do live right near the coast — literally both ways — so it might just be their normal behaviour for here.
@Doony We're switching to monthly and are going to do the thing where you wait for a bunch of stuff to come out and then watch it all within one month. Even if we could easily cover the cost, I'm not in favour of these mega-corps using low prices to capture customers.
Also, we have good local cinemas to support and we'd much prefer to put our money there.
Either way I missed it because I wasn't paying close attention and instead assumed the system would just keep the keys the same on first use of the feature.
@cygnoir Ah that sounds like fun. Sorry I missed it! I am determined to make it to the next meeting, though.
@adders Yep! That's exactly what I said to my wife when we came across these protests two years ago, in our last home. I mostly think of this as a failure of the collective; that we have created and maintain an environment in which people with this kind of energy find these wayward conclusions.
@adders What a sad way to spend your life.
@ChrisJWilson Fortunately for them the citizenry has proven itself to be mostly useless when it comes to civic responsibility.
@ChrisJWilson I thought the Conservative party was all about responsibility and, you know, taking it.
One last thing, since I'm trying to work out my viewpoint here:
You know the Apple/Jobs thing, "Privacy means people know what they’re signing up for — in plain English, and repeatedly."
That. That's where I think some great improvements — and again, I understand this would mostly be hidden and not lend itself to a big marketing splash — could be made, only not especially for privacy but for wherever a user interacts with sensitive and/or complicated parts of the platform. I guess I'm advocating for greater clarity all around...
Ok now I'm
One example is money.
I have no technical capability to offer a solution. Instead, it seems pretty obvious to me that there are few areas as damaging for your reputation when compared to handling money.
Two years ago I rambled on about Micro.blog and communication. I'm still unsure if I'd change much about the basic thoughts I have here — too any issues feel like you get the infamous Apple "magic box" treatment, in that when something happens there is a lack of good feedback. Then, on top of that, you can't easily find a broader explanation to help you understand what's happening as easily as you should. Then on top of that things seem to just continue as they were.
IDK maybe I'm just seeing this from my own bubble here, and most people on the platform are fine. That feels like a bit of a coincidence, though, and either way it is disconcerting to see heavy users of the feature hit discouraging hurdles.
Anyway that's my rambling done for now. Got my fingers crossed for big yet barely visible improvements to stability and performance.
@maique Transparency with the Plans part of the service is an absolute must. I know I and other folks have had repeated issues with this over the past few years so you couldn't even say that this used to be reliable.
It feels too much like some of the other weak spots of MB; it's fragile and can only be fixed if and when Manton gets around to dealing with the individual account.
@Annie Huh weird. I just made an edit to remove the link and it instantly works. Sometimes MB takes a while to make those edits successfully or needs a bit of a kick (re-build, edit again, etc) but other than that it definitely must have been something else in the post, as you say. Again — weird!
@Annie is this what it looked like before the fix?
@otaviocc time to cook
@Gabz Encrypted Means Encrypted Means Encrypted Means Encrypted
@the Oh with Drafts is an interesting idea. I've already replaced Drafts, from the dock, with Strata.
Also, I love this idea of using it for living notes — it makes sense once I saw the page, since I think people do that with all of those Obsidian type platforms — and will no proceed to steal it 😇
@maique Finally getting the feeling that I'm properly back and want to return to the habit of sharing useful stuff 👍
... set from embedded audio tags in a post (podcasts)
If the podcast is hosted on MB I assume the audio tag is there and it just works. Can't speak to other hosts, though. Rishi, if it isn't working for a podcast of yours that sounds like an issue for email@example.com.
