@bradenslen I would never buy a Tesla because Elon Musk is a Nazi.
@manton Did you forget Vine existed? That's the source. On top of that, your buddy Zuckerberg is the behemoth in the room who takes anything he can and immediately beams it into the eyes of billions of people.
TikTok are bad, yes, but you talk about them as if the other agents aren't even involved, let alone at times even more influential.
@gregmorris Such good work. The app looks like an easy option for folks to choose. 👍
@JohnPhilpin Best not give them a rake. Their broken noses would only add to the burden on the system.
@JohnPhilpin @adamprocter The trains need to start working first. ;)
@aeryn Good luck! I hope you find what you need away from the internet.
@aeryn This is such a good post. I've also been wrangling with this issue. I need to get on with curating the timelines I am reading. Need to look at them in the cold light of day and draw a direct line from what I truly want to do and whether I actually have space for everything I have allowed in.
I ended the last, and began this year with so much excitement for things to come in the Micro.blog community, and my work on TIL. Now I am adding into the mix the events of the past few weeks and need to decide what steps I need to take so that I can maintain the momentum for whatever I can, and decide to do.
I understand that much of this is centred around a minuscule part of the web. However I think much like in the physical world, our small online communities can be a bulwark against the absolute crap of the world and so they are very important. As such the issues currently present will continue to hold my focus, and I look forward to resolving that dynamic and moving on with my life.
@aeryn This is the reason I hate that somebody sent that letter at all, no matter who it is; it is inflaming and divisive. If whomever sent it was right to do so, I still hate that there was no other option. Just a terrible situation all around.
@adders Yep. Still feels shitty; seeing people use legal threats to silence other people, especially given current events, is fucking awful.
Have also seen some ugly behaviour here on Micro.blog during these events, and that has left a mark.
Worst of all; there is still further context missing from the entire situation, and I'm not even sure everybody with an opinion is aware of that... and even if they were I don't think it would change much in people's behaviour. It's crap all around.
@adders Thanks. Have edited my post. And so the sickly feeling continues.
@jeremybakernz If he is lying then he is torching everything he has built on the web. Given what he has said on Discord this seems highly unlikely.
I can't speak to what makes a good ally (I try to support people as much as I can), and I hate that I'm saying this but each day I feel less comfortable that the public web is where genuine progress can be made on that front. It is still a good starting point for finding people but beyond that I have serious doubts.
@jean I am sad you left.
@crossingthethreshold That'll be in my obituary 😂
@manton Thank. God. 👍
@aeryn My brain is laughing at my thought that I am about to fall asleep.
@jsonbecker New month, same shit.
@aeryn Without good further communication, there's a chance we'll never know. The silence around here has become deafening.
@maique Is this on Signal?
@patrickrhone A sinful show. We've started to talk about setting up routines around it so that we don't accidentally make terrible decisions whilst we're watching. 😂
@patrickrhone Please put the NSFW tag before the post.
@JohnPhilpin I'm nearly finished. Nothing has been said, really. Just a genteel goodbye.
The tragic thing here is that Ben could easily be talking about more than one man.
@jsonbecker You mean they engage in performative outrage!? 🫨
@patrickrhone PLEASE COME TO CORNWALL
ahem. I mean uh... /insert proper invitation here/
