It's sad to see just how hostile so many websites have become with regard to design and function. Even now the alternative -- the independent web; including the IndieWeb movement, platforms such as Micro.blog and Mastodon, and more -- continues to be hostile in its own way, whether via the walls of technical knowledge, the lack of cross-platform options, and other issues I can't currently recall from memory.
The answer, therefore, is likely messy and unsatisfying in many ways. Although, that basically sounds like life in itself so perhaps the answer is to stop worrying, just make things, and put them out there in the way you feel is best?
