@brentsimmons Omni is a great example. Talk about a third-party developer creating loyalty, literally over many years before the iPhone and thus creating a backlog of good will whilst Apple were taking their time to gradually develop iOS.

Now put that up against those multiple events, at WWDC no less, in which Apple bragged about both the number of developers and the money they "paid out". You would think Apple would be aware enough of the optics here, let alone the value of actually looking after people who are more than just customers.
