As for the general issue — I liked both of your posts; you have explained some of my own thoughts and feelings on this issue —, whilst I agree that the whole hype and hyperbolic culture is generally bad and should be avoided, I do think there is a way to establish your own style and promote yourself in a tasteful and appealing manner.

For example, extending your blog with a newsletter that further points people to relevant previous posts; this could also include a different approach to the style of the blog posts themselves since strictly speaking the newsletter is in a different space.
